XENIA'S 1916 CHRISTMAS TREE TRADITION
Welcome to Day 12 of our 25 Days of Xenia Christmas Countdown! Today, we're taking a look back at the moment a cherished Xenia tradition began, over a century ago.
The year was 1916, and Xenia came together to hold its very first large-scale, city-wide Community Christmas Tree Lighting right on the Xenia Square.
This was more than just a ceremony; it was a deeply significant moment. Coming just before the United States entered WWI, this event helped foster a sense of hope, unity, and neighborhood togetherness. It was a massive success, bringing together families from across Greene County to share in the joy and light of the holiday season.
This single event set the stage for the beloved annual Downtown Xenia Tree Lighting ceremony we celebrate today (which we highlighted back on Day 10!). It proves that Xenia has always been defined by its strong, resilient community spirit and its ability to gather together, celebrate, and support local. That heritage is a huge part of what makes living here so special.
As your local Xenia realtor, I love highlighting the historical foundations of our community. Knowing these traditions makes living here even richer!
