Welcome back to the 25 Days of Xenia Christmas Countdown! For Day 19, we’re taking a moment to reflect on a specific kind of generosity: caring for the generation that built our community.

While the holidays are a time of joy, they can also be a time of isolation for many seniors. That’s why today we are shining a spotlight on the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center (XARSC).

Spotlight: Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center (XARSC)

Located on South Progress Drive, XARSC is far more than just a place to play bingo (though they do have excellent bingo nights!). It is a lifeline for hundreds of Xenia residents.

For over 50 years, this organization has been the "one-stop resource" for seniors in Xenia and Greene County. Their mission goes beyond recreation; it’s about maintaining independence and dignity. Whether it’s providing transportation to dialysis appointments or offering a hot lunch at the AJ Early Cafeteria, XARSC ensures our neighbors are never forgotten.

The Holiday "Lifeline": Meals on Wheels

The most critical service they provide during the winter months is Meals on Wheels.

When the snow falls and roads get icy, many seniors are unable to leave their homes. XARSC volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals directly to their doors. But often, the food is secondary to the visit itself. For many recipients, the volunteer driver is the only person they will see or speak to all day. That brief check-in is a vital safety net that represents the true heart of Xenia.

How You Can Give Back Right Now

You don't need to be a millionaire to help. XARSC has very specific, manageable needs that you can help with this week:

• Volunteer to Drive: This is the most impactful gift you can give. They are often in need of drivers for meal delivery routes (approx. 10:45 AM – 1:00 PM). Even if you can only sub occasionally, you are helping feed a neighbor.
  
  
• Donate "Bingo Prizes": It sounds simple, but it brings so much joy! XARSC accepts donations of new, small items (approx. $1 value) like toiletries, journals, or kitchen gadgets to use as prizes for their activities. It's a fun, low-cost way to contribute.
  
  
• Spread the Word: Do you know a senior who is sitting home alone this December? Encourage them to visit the center! Membership is incredibly affordable, and it opens the door to a warm, safe community of friends.
  
  

Community Strength

A community is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members. By supporting XARSC, we are telling our seniors that they are valued, seen, and loved.
