Why Getting a Real Estate License is Easier Than Learning to Cut Hair: The Shocking Reality
Did you know that it takes more hours to get a cosmetology license than it does to become a realtor? Let that sink in for a moment. It takes 1,600 hours to learn how to style someone’s hair, but only 90 hours to start selling homes. No wonder realtors sometimes get a bad rap, right?
Our market is oversaturated with real estate agents, to the point where you can literally throw a rock and probably hit one. Heck, in some areas, you could throw that rock, bounce it off one realtor, and hit another. The barrier to entry is so low that anyone can jump in and start selling houses. This raises a critical question: Why aren’t we talking about this? Why isn’t there a push to make it tougher to get a real estate license?
The answer? Money. The more agents there are, the more dues get paid, which means more cash in the pockets of the big guys on top. They don’t want to raise the bar because it would cut into their profits. But isn’t it crazy that it’s easier to become a realtor than it is to learn how to style hair?
What do you think? Should we make it harder to become a realtor?
