Turkey’s Done, Now What? Your Ultimate Xenia Weekend Guide (Nov 27–30)
The turkey has been carved, the pie has been eaten, and the inevitable "food coma" is starting to wear off. If you are like most families in Xenia this morning, you are currently staring at a fridge full of leftovers and asking the same question: "Okay, what are we doing now?"
The days following Thanksgiving are actually some of the best times to be in Greene County. It’s that magical sweet spot where the fall season officially shakes hands with the Christmas holidays.
Whether you need to escape the house tonight or you’re looking to entertain out-of-town guests all weekend, I’ve mapped out a full itinerary so you don't have to. Here is your local guide to everything happening in and around Xenia from Thanksgiving night through Sunday.
Thursday Night: The "Survival" Guide
Status: Mostly Quiet, but Open for Business
Let’s be honest—sometimes you just need to get out of the house on Thanksgiving night. While most of Xenia’s beloved mom-and-pop shops are closed to be with their families, you still have options if you can’t face another round of turkey sandwiches.
- Catch a Blockbuster: Cinemark at The Greene is open and showing the season's biggest hits. If you want to escape reality for a few hours, catch Wicked (multiple late showings), Gladiator II, or take the kids to Moana 2.
- The Late Night Bite: If you are hungry and everything else is dark, the Xenia Waffle House is shining bright. Open 24/7, it remains the undefeated champion of "I need food at midnight" dining.
Friday: The Official Kick-Off
The Main Event: Legendary Lights of Clifton Mill
Friday marks the transition from "Fall Harvest" to "Winter Wonderland." There is no better way to signal the start of the season than the Legendary Lights of Historic Clifton Mill.
This isn't just a local display; it’s a national bucket-list event right in our backyard.
- What to expect: Over 4 million lights covering the mill, the gorge, and the waterfall. There is also a synchronized music light show and a Santa Museum.
- Insider Tip: Gates open at 5:00 PM, and lights go on at 6:00 PM. Friday is typically slightly less chaotic than Saturday, so if you want to beat the peak weekend rush, go tonight.
- Cost: $15 per person (Kids 3 & under are free).
Saturday: Burn, Shop, and Sip
Morning: The Dayton Turkey Trot If you indulged a little too much on Thursday (didn't we all?), head to Welcome Stadium in Dayton at 8:30 AM. The Turkey Trot is a post-Thanksgiving tradition. Even if you aren't running the Half Marathon or 5K, the atmosphere is electric and it’s a great way to get fresh air.
Mid-Day: Small Business Saturday Skip the big box madness and keep your dollars local. Take a walk down Main Street in Xenia, or if you are feeling adventurous, head to the Christkindl Market at Front Street in Dayton (11 AM – 4 PM). It’s a European-style market perfect for finding unique artisan gifts you can't buy on Amazon.
Evening: Devil Wind Brewing After a day of running or shopping, you deserve a break. Devil Wind Brewing on South Detroit St. is the perfect "post-shopping" pitstop. They are open until midnight, usually have a food truck on site, and are pouring local favorites like the "Xenia Amber."
Sunday: The "Last Chance" & Recovery
The End of an Era: Caesar Creek Flea Market This is a bittersweet one. After nearly 50 years, the Caesar Creek Flea Market is closing its doors forever. This weekend (Sat/Sun 9 AM – 5 PM) is your absolute last chance to walk the aisles. Whether you are hunting for vintage tools, retro decor, or just nostalgia, it’s worth the 15-minute drive to Wilmington to say goodbye to a local landmark.
Active Recovery: Wrap up the weekend with a peaceful bike ride or walk starting at Xenia Station. The weather is forecasted to be crisp—perfect for clearing your head before the Monday grind returns.
Happy Holidays, Xenia!
From the lights at the Mill to the closing of the Flea Market, it’s a big weekend for our community. However you choose to spend it, I hope it’s filled with great food and even better company.
